In 1999, the Office of Planned Giving at Stanford University determined that it would produce a conference to educate attorneys, accountants, and other professionals on the importance of charitable giving and various tools available to the planned giving process.

The first Conference was held at the Stanford Law School and attended by nearly 50 professionals. Conference sessions were led by staff of the Stanford Office of Planned Giving. The Conference later moved to the newly constructed Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center in 2001 where it has been held ever since.

In 2003, Mellon BNY became the sponsor of the Conference.

In 2007, the Office of Planned Giving joined with Silicon Valley Community Foundation to produce the Conference on Charitable Giving together. This collaboration was designed to increase outreach to attorneys, accountants, advisors, philanthropic professionals and other supporters to enhance the Conference's reputation as a well-recognized, high quality professional educational and networking opportunity. This partnership continues to flourish and, we believe, has resulted in a richer experience for those attending the Conference.

In its history, the Conference has grown from a half day to a full day affair with plenary and break-out sessions on topics of interest to professionals who advise clients in charitable estate planning and charitable giving, and for other professionals who are interested in various aspects of philanthropy. Conference attendance has grown to approximately 300. Capacity is limited, so consider registering early to guarantee your space.
